GreenScene plans, builds, and maintains gardens, patios, and grounds across the Blue Ridge foothills — from the first sketch to the seasons after.
Master plans that account for grade, drainage, sun, and how the space will actually be used year-round.
Stone patios, retaining walls, walkways, and outdoor kitchens built to hold up on Appalachian terrain.
Smart-zone irrigation and French drains that keep water where you want it and away from where you don't.
Native and adapted plantings selected for the site's soil and microclimate, not a catalog default.
Season-round mowing, fertilization, pruning, and cleanup programs for properties large and small.
Low-voltage path, uplighting, and patio lighting design that extends the space into the evening.
We walk the property together, talk through how you use it, and note grade, sun, and drainage.
A scaled plan, plant and material list, and a fixed proposal — no allowances, no surprises.
One crew runs the job start to finish, so grading, hardscape, and planting stay coordinated.
Seasonal visits to keep the design looking the way it did the day we handed it over.
GreenScene was founded in 2011 by Mara Ellison, who spent her first six years designing gardens before she'd trust anyone else to build them. That's still how the company runs — the person who draws the plan is on-site when it's built.
Today the crew is twelve people across design, build, and maintenance, working properties from downtown Asheville out to Black Mountain and Hendersonville. We keep the client list small enough that every job gets a foreman who's done this before, not a rotating crew.
"They caught a drainage problem two other companies had missed and fixed it before the patio went in. That's the whole reason to hire a design-build firm."
— Colin Franz, Kimberly Ave
"Mara's plan used half the water budget we expected and still looks fuller than the last landscaper's design ever did."
— Renee Ostrowski, Montford
"Same crew from the first site walk to the last plant in the ground. No handoffs, no re-explaining the project."
— David & Ann Whitfield, Black Mountain
